ABOUT ME

Jiu-Jitsu Changed My Life...
I owe my mother a debt of gratitude for recognizing the potential
that Jiu-Jitsu had to build my self-confidence. I was a shy and socially awkward child and Jiu-Jitsu offered me a way to not just train my body and develop new physical skills, but to be a part of something greater than myself.
I had an amazing teacher during those formative years who nurtured me (even though I had two left feet to begin) and made me realize that I was capable of more than I ever thought I was. His greatest lessons were the ones that helped me understand that Jiu-Jitsu isn't about violence, rather, it is a way to control and even prevent aggression - a truth that has been obscured behind modern "versions" that defy its original intent and spirit.
Over the years, I worked my way up through the ranks acquiring my black belt at the age of 16 and subsequently, my 3rd degree black belt certification through the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Council in 1993. Since that time, I've been teaching the traditional style of Jiu-Jitsu that was taught to me, all those years ago .
As an Ontario certified Special Educaiton classroom teacher, I recognize the importance of a student centered and individualized approach. to learning. I believe in cultivating inner strength and balance, without which, the "moves" are inconsequential.
It is my great privilege to have this opportunity and am confident that I can do for you or your child, what traditional Jiu-Jitsu did for me - it took a withdrawn boy and showed him that there is a warrior within us all.

Traditional Japanese
Jiu-Jitsu

Although Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts have grown in enormous popularity over the years, these styles are offshots of traditional Jiu-Jitsu which originated several centuries ago in Japan.
Literally translated, Jiu-Jitsu means `gentle or yeilding art'.
Its guiding principle is one of peace and redirection - using an aggressor's own energy against them.
Traditional Jiu-Jitsu is the best of all possible worlds as it encompasses many different martial arts styles and disciplines (judo, karate, aikido, hapkido to name a few).
Our students learn much more than kicks, punches and throws.
More important than "the moves" is the sense of self confidence, balance and inner strength that traditional Jiu-Jitsu cultivates.
Jiu-Jitsu is about peace - plain and simple.
